Last night, I was happily eating my Panda Express when I got a hot tip via SMS:
Do you need any cross country skis, snowboard boots, bindings or camping stoves? Come to the Outdoors Center -- they're giving away free stuff. Hurry!
After a wildly successful weekend of crab fishing in Half Moon Bay, CA:
I've been convinced to write a how-to guide.
Before every holiday, I find myself saying, "I'm so excited! [Upcoming Holiday] is my favorite holiday!" Which is a much happier and more positive approach than the typical, "Ugh. I hate [Upcoming Holiday]! It's so commercialized!"
And although my favorite holiday, Halloween, just ended:
I tweeted this photo to @AllenIverson. Sadly, he did not tweet me back.
... People are already talking about the next holiday -- my favorite holiday! Thanksgiving!
But mostly what I'm hearing people talk about is Black Friday. It's natural to get swept up in sales and deals -- the world's best psychologists see to that. Many of us think buying things, whether for ourselves or others, can make us happy. (And, when done correctly, it actually can!) For others, it's a post-Thanksgiving tradition. Whether you love it or hate it, chances are you'll be doing some shopping between Thanksgiving and Christmas. And I want to help. If you're shopping for a girl age 4-12, here are the top eight things you should consider buying: 1. Slotwood. They're like life-size Lincoln Logs.
I guess I should warn you that there are some disturbing images later in this article.
Catcalling is gross and shitty. I can't even begin to fathom why someone would do such a thing -- you know, unless it's one of those non-stranger, consensual sort of catcall situations. The issue was recently captured in a viral video created by Hollaback!, a non-profit and movement to end street harassment:
Different groups are upset for all kinds of different reasons. Some object to calling this street harassment -- especially because the girl in the video is wearing "tight pants," or because, "Hey, beautiful," is actually a nice compliment.
One of the first musicals I ever saw in my life -- shockingly, as the show is a bit adult -- was Chorus Line. I loved the music, I loved the dancing... and I loved the quippiness, even though I was far too young to understand most of it at the time. And it's probably stuck with me more than any other musical (except possibly Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Music Man) -- I think I sing songs from Chorus Line on a weekly (possibly daily) basis.
(Yeah, I'm weird.) And - omg guess what! -- I just found out that Chorus Line is playing in Sunnyvale, CA. AND that you can book tickets for 40% off on Groupon (so they're $18 instead of $30). AND that you can apparently save an extra 15% by using the code FUNTIMES at checkout. |
