5 Ways to Make a LaCroix Costume for Halloween

Everyone who's been paying attention knows that if anything mattered in 2017, it was La Croix.
LaCroix is a lightly flavored, sugar-free carbonated water wrapped in a garish can. It was a favorite drink of Midwestern moms in the 1990s -- but suddenly exploded in popularity and ubiquity in the last year. The New York Times published an essay raving about it. The Awl and Time Out New York ranked its flavors. Young urban professionals everywhere can't stop talking about it.

In short, it's become an obsession.

LaCroix defies tradition and logic. Trends typically flow from the East and West Coasts to the Midwest -- not from Wisconsin to everywhere. It's caffeine free, yet people are addicted. And it's pronouced "la croy," y'all.

Best of all, there's no way it could possibly offend anyone. Right?

So. How to dress as LaCroix for Halloween? There are a number of ways to approach this, from modest and warm to skimpy. (Remember, parents: it's okay to let your tweens dress sexy, as long as they build the costume themselves.)

1. Fishnet Chemise With Cut-Outs Over Mini Dress
Picture
When I dressed as LaCroix, I kept it pretty simple. (An artist, I am not.)

I ordered a LaCroix-colored fishnet mini dress, $10.

And then a complementary-colored dress to wear underneath:

Then I cut out the panels from a 12-pack of LaCroix and taped it to the front and back of my dress.

The total came to about $20. And, I mean, I didn't look EPIC. But I looked reasonably good. Solid B+ for effort.

2. Tape a LaCroix Box to an Appropriately-Colored T-Shirt #DforEffort

If that's too much for you, you can always just do one of these:

It gets the point across, you still kind of match your date... and at least the painter's tape matched the LaCroix colorway.

3. Actually be an Artist.

So this girl Kali posted a super legit LaCroix costume:

That looks fantastic! If you've got it in you... get out your... paintbrush? And posterboard?

And, of course, some twine.

4. Duct Tape Dress.

Or, if you swear by duct tape, you can make a LaCroix version of this:

You will need:

Garbage bags
Colorful Duct Tape (the color will depend on your favorite La Croix flavor)
12-pack (or 8-pack) of LaCroix (you'll be cutting out the logo)

What to do:

Wrap the trash bag around yourself. Wrap over that with colorful duct tape. Add the LaCroix label.

Voila!

5. Warm and Easy! T-Shirt and Pants/Leggings

Order one of these from the LaCroix shop:

Or one of these from Amazon -- available in men's, women's and youth:

Pair with some crazy neon leggings or metallic leggings:

And, of course, you can top it off with crazy, LaCroix-y shoes:

Qupid Low Top Ankle Boots, $8-$32 (depending on size/color):

Funtasma Women's Gogo, $15.06-$51.73:

Lace up Rock Glitter Fashion Sneaker, $20.98

IDIFU Women's Glitter Sequined Low Top Lace Up Platform Sneakers, $35.86 (from $89.98)

Then top it off with a headband that matches your LaCroix flavor, or a silver one. Tie, clip or glue a big silver bow to it. Viola!

Or, if you like being a little more craftsy, you can make a pop top-shape cut out a cardboard, and wrap it in duct tape or aluminum foil:
