Ever Wondered What It's Like To Watch Fireworks From 40 Feet Below the Sea? Wonder No More!7/23/2016
If you love scuba diving and you haven't been to Bonaire yet, you are missing out.
I was fortunate enough to be there over the 4th of July this year, and I got to try something I've never done before... Underwater fireworks!
It was... an experience! Somewhat predictably (if you know about wave lengths and absorption), the fireworks looked exclusively green and blue.
But one thing I didn't predict was how incredibly bright the fireworks would be. Each big blast lit up the entire world above me in blinding light, almost like the flash of a camera. Much of the shape and definition of the fireworks were lost, and the booms were only somewhat audible. Not pictured in this video are the dozen or so tarpons that were swarming around me throughout this entire dive -- hint: the brighter your dive light, the more attention you'll get from our shiny giant friends below the sea. The American Ninja Warriors were using the Tektite Excursion LS5, which is small, light, and super bright -- 750 lumens! On any other night, I would have thought that my Light Cannon was super bright... but the LS5 definitely outshone it.
