Everyone who's been paying attention knows that if anything mattered in 2016, it was La Croix. LaCroix is a lightly flavored, sugar-free carbonated water wrapped in a garish can. It was a favorite drink of Midwestern moms in the 1990s -- but suddenly exploded in popularity and ubiquity in the last year. The New York Times published an essay raving about it. The Awl and Time Out New York ranked its flavors. Young urban professionals everywhere can't stop talking about it. In short, it's become an obsession.
LaCroix defies tradition and logic. Trends typically flow from the East and West Coasts to the Midwest -- not from Wisconsin to everywhere. It's caffeine free, yet people are addicted. And it's pronouced "la croy," y'all.
Best of all, there's no way it could possibly offend anyone. Right? So. How to dress as LaCroix for Halloween? There are a number of ways to approach this, from modest and warm to skimpy. (Remember, parents: it's okay to let your tweens dress sexy, as long as they build the costume themselves.) On the sexy side (because LaCroix is so hot right now): In just a couple of minutes, you can make a LaCroix version of this: You will need: Garbage bags Colorful Duct Tape (the color will depend on your favorite La Croix flavor) 12-pack (or 8-pack) of LaCroix (you'll be cutting out the logo) What to do: Wrap the trash bag around yourself. Wrap over that with colorful duct tape. Add the LaCroix label. Voila! Warm and easy: Order one of these from the LaCroix shop: Or one of these from Amazon -- available in men's, women's and youth: Pair with matching leggings (you should probably stick with neon -- bonus points for shimmer): You can top it off with a killer pair of heels, comfy tennis shoes.... or some crazy neon boots. I found these on Amazon: Qupid Low Top Ankle Boots, $8-$32 (depending on size/color): And here are a few pairs of shoes I saw on ModCloth that basically screamed "LaCroix!" to me: Glossed in Translation Wedge, $49.99 marked down to $7.50: Sensational Celebration Heel, was $64.99, now $24.99: A Necessary Sequel Sandal in Gold, was $39.99, now $27.99: Cognitive Agility Boot, $39.99: Top it all off: Whether you went for the sexy or warmer version of the LaCroix costume, it probably didn't take more than a few minutes of your time. So why not top it off? These girls used a silver bow to represent the "pop top": You can order a headband that matches your LaCroix flavor, or a silver one. Tie, clip or glue a big silver bow to it. Viola! If you like being a little more craftsy, you can a pop top-shape cut out a cardboard, and wrap it in duct tape or aluminum foil: *** Any other ideas of how to dress up like a warm and comfortable, cute, or even sexy LaCroix?
