A recently-divorced, 59-year-old man recently asked, "I'm so lonely -- what should I do?"
While it sucks that he is now single and alone... the good news is that roughly 50% of marriages end in divorce these days, so there are plenty of beautiful, single women out there. Meeting them in real life can be hard -- but here's something most 50-somethings don't know:

Dating Advice: You May be Asking All the Right Questions, But Here’s What You’re Forgetting9/16/2016
Once upon a time, I met a super cool dude at a book reading. I remember the moment I saw the back of his head. Then, during the Q&A, he moved to the chair next to me, and the sparks instantly started flying.
But it didn't take long to figure out I never wanted to see him again.
A wise woman once said, "Boys only want love if it's torture."
Of course, she was being totally sarcastic. What this wise woman was actually doing was giving the biggest "f- you" ever to the sexist coverage her music got in the media.
I’ve done a lot of traveling this year! From Costa Rica to Panama to Bonaire – and even just the amazingly gorgeous Ithaca, New York -- I’ve been getting on lots of planes.
And, by weird coincidence, the exact same thing has happened on the last two flights I was on:
You know what I love about interacting with people who disagree with me? The inspiration that comes from hearing their viewpoints -- and the corresponding reevaluation and refining of my own views.
For example, I was recently asked whether it's sexist for women to expect to be entertained by men -- and it seemed like the asker was hoping for a definite yes. But the real answer... is maybe. Phillips Exeter Faculty Lie to Sexual Assault Victim, Tell Her She Wasn't Sexually Assaulted7/13/2016
In the years since I attended Phillips Exeter Academy, I have never uttered a bad word about the school. I probably tell at least one person a week (conservative estimate) what a magical place it is. I've written on both Slate and my own blog about how much I love Exeter.
But the time has come to do something I've never done before. I have bad words -- very bad words -- to say about my beloved alma mater.
Feminists demand that more women and people of color receive significant roles in movies - then freak out when a villain is violent against one.
Last week, Franchesca Ramsey of MTV's Decoded posted this video about why "no one" wants to date Asian men, while Asian women are highly desired, sometimes to the point of being fetishized.
Meanwhile, OkCupid has released data showing who is the most and least desired in online dating: Men don’t write black women back. Or rather, they write them back far less often than they should. Black women reply the most, yet get by far the fewest replies. Essentially every race--including other blacks—singles them out for the cold shoulder.
I've had my share of disagreements with websites Everyday Feminism and Feministing... But I actually do agree with much of their content. Or at least see value in it. For example, Reina Gattuso's recent piece, You Assaulted Me, Now Can You Please Call Me Back?
When I saw #NationalSendANudeDay trending on Twitter last, I thought it was dumb and would obviously go away soon.
But it didn't, and then it trended on Facebook, too. I thought it would be a good time to remind everyone -- especially the young people: almost everyone you share a nude selfie with will show at least one (but usually multiple) other person. |
